Dear Steve,

I am deeply humbled that you have taken time to read “Letters From Grandpa” and have even volunteered to help put them into print or in other ways give them wider exposure. I am very interested in this project providing that any profits would go to I-TEC.

Let me share where I am coming from. One of my heroes was the late Dr. George Washington Carver. Since the Lord didn’t charge him for his discoveries, he didn’t charge anyone either. While I am certainly not in his category, I do not want or expect royalties for what I have written.

My writing career began when the late Mike Pratt gave $2,500 to the church I was serving so that I might be given time to do research and writing. My first efforts were to compile and publish Mike’s meditations after he was killed in a plane crash.

His daily diary was inspired by Jim Elliott.

The first books I wrote required “camera ready copies”. A legal secretary, Susan Youngblood Wendleton, typed them for me at no charge.

College Press and Literature and Teaching Ministries have been gracious enough to publish the books I have have written with the note: “No Rights Reserved – As His Spirit leads, and for His glory, you are encouraged to use this material for the building up of His Body and for the evangelization of the world”. I receive no royalties from either ministry.

I know that it costs money to publish books and believe there is nothing wrong with making a profit. When I was in Nigeria a pastor named Tony Okeke asked permission to reprint “These Two Commandments” and “By This Shall All Men Know”. I gave that permission with the understanding that Tony would sell the books at a profit and use the money in his ministry. •

Similar permission was given to Jose, Jose, Aparecio regarding Spanish books.

• While they do not normally receive “Letters From Grandpa” I sent them
• 324 as it involved Peru. They wanted to make it into a tract and I was happy for them to do so, and hope publishing these letters would not keep them from being used in this way.

The Spanish translation was done by Robert Marsh who worked in Peru for 19 years. He has translated dozens of books and articles for me and never charged me a penny.

My web site has been generated by a Christian carpenter named Robert Cobb. He is a self taught genius regarding technology and has never charged me a penny. He even puts the web site on CDs which have been sent by the hundreds to the mission field.

I believe that “LETTERS FROM GRANDPA” with a forward by Stephen Saint would provide name recognition that I do not have. Hopefully your readers and supporters would promote the book with enthusiasm realizing that the profits would go to I-TEC.
