Dearest grandchild,
Charles Darwin published The Origin of the Species in 1859. He didn’t believe in God but avoided theorizing about the “origin” of life. He apparently considered the “simple” cell to be “simple”. In 1837, however, he finally admitted: “the intimate relation of Life with laws of chemical combination, & the universality of latter, render spontaneous generation not improbable”.
As you know, in the mid nineteenth century Louis Pasteur conducted experiments that debunked the “theory” of the spontaneous generation of life. Scientifically speaking, life only comes from life! The “theory” of evolution, however, is so important to those who do not believe in God that some modern scientists still continue to experiment. Some even falsely claim to have created life in a laboratory. In 2010, for example, scientists claim to have “created” the first cell with a synthetic genome. However, “They didn’t build that cell completely from scratch. Instead, they started with cells from a very simple type of bacteria called mycoplasma. They destroyed the DNA in those cells and replaced it with DNA that was designed on a computer and synthesized in a lab. They claimed this was the first organism in the history of life on Earth to have an entirely synthetic genome. They called it JCVI-syn1.0.” Dr. James Tour claims they were wrong!
Dr. Tour is an American chemist and nanotechnologist at Rice University in Houston. As a devout Christian Dr. Tour challenges the claims of anyone who claims to have created life from non life. On Dec. 4, 2023 Dr. Jake Herbert explained in the ICR News: “For some time now, renowned and award-winning Rice University chemist and outspoken Christian Dr. James Tour has been exposing the fact that origin-of-life (OoL) researchers really have no idea how life could have formed through natural processes. Two months ago, Dr. Tour issued a dramatic challenge to 10 prominent OoL researchers. Tour said he would take down all his public criticisms of OoL, but only if any one of the 10 leading OoL researchers could convincingly solve just one of five key OoL problems. The first four in need of explanation were (1) The origin of polypeptides (linear organic polymers that are composed of amino acids). (2) The origin of polynucleotides like RNA and DNA. (3) The origin of polysaccharides (necessary as biological energy sources such as glycogen).(4) The origin of the specified information contained in living things. The fifth and final challenge was for an OoL research team to construct a living cell, assuming that the other four challenges had already been met . . . ”
“ In spite of Tour’s very generous conditions, the deadline for the 60-day challenge passed without the researchers even attempting to answer any of Tour’s five challenges. Their silence was deafening. If after decades of research 10 top researchers in the field can’t answer even one of these basic questions, then it seems that no one can .” “Despite blustery claims that researchers are getting closer to resolving this mystery, there are occasional tells for those watching carefully, that OoL researchers don’t have a clue on this subject. Occasionally, evolutionists themselves even admit their ignorance. Wealthy evolutionists have offered a $10 million prize to the scientist who can offer a convincing naturalistic OoL scenario. Spoiler alert: the prize hasn’t been claimed.”
Dr. Thomas Nagel is an atheist who shocked his fellow unbelievers by writing Mind and Cosmos. The sub title of this book is “Why the Materialist Neo-Darwinian Conception of Nature Is Almost Certainly False.” Nagel openly fears religion and wrote: “In speaking of the fear of religion, I don’t mean to refer to the entirely reasonable hostility toward certain established religions and religious institutions, in virtue of their objectionable moral doctrines, social policies, and political influence. Nor am I referring to the association of many religious beliefs with superstition and the
acceptance of evident empirical falsehoods. I am talking about something much deeper—namely, the fear of religion itself. I speak from experience, being strongly subject to this fear myself: I want atheism to be true and am made uneasy by the fact that some of the most intelligent and well- informed people I know are religious believers. It isn’t just that I don’t believe in God and, naturally, hope that I’m right in my belief. It’s that I hope there is no God! I don’t want there to be a God; I don’t want the universe to be like that.”
The late Roy Weece was a campus minister at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He warned of Christian students having their faith “smiled away” by unbelieving professors. In the absence of evidence some arrogant professors merely offer a condescending smile to those students who would dare to question their atheism. Such smiles, however, are not science! They have no affect on scholars like Dr. James Tour who are asking for evidence. Neither should they intimidate you and me!
