Dearest grandchild,

Today’s letter will once again be about “truth”. We have pointed out before that in 2016 “Post- truth” was the Oxford Dictionary’s “word of the year”. The official definition reads: “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief”. Sadly, we are now in an era where “truth” is whatever you want it to be. Remember that Supreme court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was unable to define what a women is? According to the Household Pulse Survey 2.3 million adults in America claim to be “transgender”. This means that voyeuristic men no longer have to break the law by peeping into your bedroom window. All they have to do is “identify” as a woman and they can ogle as many naked women as they want. This also means that below average men athletes can invade women’s sports and steal prize money, scholarships and medals. Florence Joiner is perhaps the greatest woman athlete ever, yet in 2019 almost a hundred high school boys beat her records. The denial of truth has even invaded mathematics. James Lindsay, in his book Cynical Theories, points out that woke mathematicians now insist that “2 + 2 is no longer 4 but merely “a perspective in white western mathematics that marginalizes other possible values.” Isaiah faced the same perverted thinking centuries ago and wrote: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20)

God is not happy with those who do not love the truth! Before Jesus comes again a “man of lawlessness” will be revealed who does not love the truth: “The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) Remember! Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44) and his ultimate destruction cannot be avoided!

A polygraph machine is sometimes called a “lie detector”. It is designed to detect lies. It does this by monitoring blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and skin conductivity. God has given each of us a “conscience” (Romans 2:15). When someone tells a lie their conscience triggers reactions in their whole body. Some hardened criminals, however, have damaged their conscience to the point that they can sometimes fool the machine and not get detected. God, however, cannot be fooled! That’s why He is determined to destroy all those who do not love the truth but delight in wickedness!

We humans are creatures of habit. There was a time when we could not talk, and now we can talk in our sleep. There was a time when we could not walk, and now we can walk in our sleep. Lying can also become a habit and habitual lying can destroy your conscience. It is impossible to renew such people unto repentance (Hebrews 6:4-6). That’s why Paul wanted Timothy to have a “good conscience” (1 Timothy 1:5, 19), and a “pure conscience” (1 Timothy 3:9). Some however, have abused their conscience so long that it is destroyed as though it had been seared with a hot iron (1 Timothy 4:2). Paul warned Titus of those who had “defiled” their conscience (Titus 1:15). Jude, the brother of Jesus, warned that such people are more like unreasoning animals than they are like men (Jude 1:10).

It seems that this is what happened to the late Russian dictator, Joseph Stalin. As a young man he apparently believed the Bible and studied at the Tiflis Theological Seminary. After abusing his conscience for many years, however, he became one of the most cruel monsters on earth. Statistics

published on June 18, 2025 indicate that Stalin “Killed at least 9 million people through mass murder, forced labor, and famine, but the true figure may be as high as 60 million.” His journey from “minister” to “monster” did not come in a single step, but little by little he damaged his conscience to the point where he lost all love for the truth!

• The words “Cosa Nostra” mean “Our Thing” and refer to the Sicilian Mafia. The Jews had their own crime family and referred to the Temple as “Our Place” (John 11:48). These wicked men had transformed God’s Temple into a den of thieves (Matthew 21:12-13). Matthew 23 lists 7 woes Jesus pronounced upon these wicked men.
• 1 They shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces.
• 2 Their converts were twice the son of hell as they were.
• 3 They were blind guides.
• 4 They neglected justice, mercy, and faithfulness.
• 5 They were like filthy cups full of greed and self indulgence.
• 6 They were like whitewashed tombs full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean.
• 7 They were hypocrites who could not escape being condemned to hell. Sadly, these condemned men lost all love for the truth!

Some sinful Jewish leaders like Saul of Tarsus could still be saved, but not these hardened criminals. Their consciences were so calloused and hard that it was impossible to renew them to repentance. That’s why Jesus said: “Let them alone.” (Matthew 15:14) They were blind guides that would lead their followers into a ditch. They were like doomed men “prepared for destruction”. (Romans 9:22) To preach to them would be like throwing “pearls to pigs”. (Matthew 7:6) When the soldiers guarding the tomb told these chief priest and elders that Jesus was risen from the dead, they immediately denied the truth and gave the soldiers a bribe and told them to lie about it (Matthew 28:11- 15). The governor was even on their pay roll and could also be bribed if necessary.

J. Warner Wallace was once an atheist and a homicide detective. He specialized in “cold cases” which were invariably homicides as such cases have no statute of limitations. When he dared to examine the evidence about the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ in the same way he examined every other “cold case” he became a Christian. Warner explained: “ I’m not a Christian because it serves my own selfish purposes. I’m not a Christian because it ‘works’ for me’. I had a life prior to Christianity that seemed to be working just fine, and my life as a Christian hasn’t always been easy. I’m a Christian because it is true. I’m a Christian because I want to live in a way that reflects the truth. I’m a Christian because my high regard for the truth leaves me no alternative.”
