Dearest grandchild,

Today’s letter will deal with the worship of time. Man has been described as a “worshiping animal”. Wherever he has left the ashes of his campfire he has also left evidence of his worship. Worship is unique to the human family. Animals do not worship. When archeologists probe through the debris of some ancient human civilization they inevitably find the remains of an altar, an idol, a temple, or some other artifact indicating that these primitive people were involved in worship.

If the Lord should tarry, future generations will look back upon us with the same condescending patronage that we look upon our primitive ancestors. When they couldn’t explain “thunder” they simply concluded there must be a “Thunder God”. No scientific explanation was available. They had reached the limit of their understanding and knowledge and simply “believed” that the Thunder God somehow created thunder. Today we smile at their ignorance.

Modern man, however, is also unable to solve or understand many mysteries. Sometimes we resort to a belief system just like our primitive ancestors did. Take, for example, the origin of life. Darwin didn’t deal with this problem for he felt that the “simple cell” was so “simple” that it could create itself. We now know, however, that the “simple cell” is more complex than the space shuttle. Faced with our inability to understand or explain the origin of life we “believe” in “time” just as our ancestors “believed” in the “Thunder God”. We don’t know how “time” created life but still “believe” it did. If a billion years of “time” is not sufficient then it is easy to increase the amount of “time” to the point where “time” becomes a sufficient foundation for our faith. Since science “believes” in “time”, to take away “time” is an act of heresy to their faith.

Consider, for example, the case of Mark Armitage. Mark is a recognized scientist with some 30 publications to his credit. He is the past president of the Southern California Society for Microscopy. In the summer of 2012, while at the world-famous dinosaur dig at Hell Creek Formation in Montana, he discovered the largest triceratops horn ever unearthed at that site. When examining the horn under a high-powered microscope he was fascinated to see “soft tissue”. The finding of soft tissue, complete with bone cells that look alive, raised doubts that the dinosaur lived 65 million years ago. When Armitage published his findings in the November 2012 issue of American Laboratory magazine he had committed sacrilege in the eyes of his colleagues. Since “time” was their only explanation for what they “believed” Armitage was fired on Feb. 27, 2013. When a religious inquisition tramples heresy, it frequently tramples truth and due process at the same time. Their heresy hunt was against the law. Fortunately there is still some integrity left in our legal system and in 2016 Armitage is reported to have received a $399,500 judgement against the California State University Northridge for his wrongful termination. Do you see this? To deny them “time” was do deny their god. “Time” is their only explanation for solving the mystery of life. While Armitage won the settlement, the “worship of time” remains intact. He has since discovered additional soft tissue in two other fossils but no scientific journal is willing to publish his papers.

The late Dr. Henry M. Morris wrote a book about Scientific Creationism. In this book he presents a wide variety of scientific evidence for a young earth. He wrote analytically about evidence from radiometric dating, mineral deposits in the ocean, the decay of earth’s magnetic field, the antiquity of man, etc. One of the most easily understood arguments for a young earth involves cosmic dust. Hans Pettersson, writing in the Scientific American, concluded that the earth receives 14 million tons of

cosmic dust each year. If the earth is “only” a mere 5 billion years old there should be a layer of cosmic dust around the earth that is 182 feet thick. The same would be true of the moon. You may have heard about the concern scientists had back in 1969 when Apollo 11 landed men on the moon. Thomas Gold, for example, was a consultant to NASA back in the 1950s. In 1955 he warned of the danger of astronauts sinking into the dust from “the ceaseless bombardment of its surface by Solar System debris". Fortunately, there was only a few inches of dust on the surface of the moon. A young moon, however, cannot even be considered as the answer for those who worship time. Sadly, the worship of time remains the accepted creed of modern science regardless of evidence to the contrary. You see it is the only explanation they have for the origin and complexities of the universe.

One of the most tragic aspects of time worship involves its utter futility. It cannot care for the infant, guide the youth, or dry the tears of the aged and infirm. It preaches “survival” not “service”. It does not inspire its worshipers to build a hospital or an orphanage. It has never stopped a war or reconciled enemies. It cannot tell the inquiring child where he came from, what he is doing here, or where it is going when he dies. It has no blueprints for either home or society. It leaves its most ardent worshipers bewildered and afraid when they approach the valley of shadows. It does not afford a single ray of hope for those who die. It ultimately deprives life of rules and values and offers no incentive to replace cruelty and aggression with compassion and love. The god of time is blind, irrational, and without compassion. The god of time doesn’t even have a mind! It is perhaps the most illogical and deficient deity ever conceived. It deprecates the power of love and chains its worshipers in dungeons of deep despair.

The “new atheists” want us to “believe” that “faith” is a religious word that involves “belief without evidence”. Quite the contrary is true of Christianity. After compiling “evidence” in his Gospel, John wrote: “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (Jn. 20:30-31).

After giving his own testimony and presenting evidence from hundreds of eye witnesses, Paul said: “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith” (1 Cor. 15:14).

The choice is clear. Either “time” created “god” or “God” created “time”. Evidence and reason compel us to believe that “time” is not the creator. “God” is the Creator! Jesus said it like this: “Worship the Lord your God and serve him only” (Lk. 4:8).
