Dearest Grandchild,
The purpose of today’s letter is to convince you how important you are to God. In recent years man has developed computers sophisticated enough to give importance to even a lowly spark plug. You can go into an auto parts store and ask for a certain spark plug. If they do not have the one you want in the store, their computer will tell them where the one you want is located. You are obviously more important than a spark plug. God obviously knows where you are!
Abram’s faith in God was greatly increased by trying to count the stars (Gen. 15:5). Even today, man, with his sophisticated telescopes, has no idea how many stars there are. Not only that, our best astronomers don’t even know how many galaxies there are. Yet God not only knows the number of the stars, He has even given every star a name. Please consider:
“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.” (Ps 147:4-5)
Actually, you are more important than a star. In fact, God made the sun, the moon, and the stars to give light upon the earth. The stars will ultimately disappear, but you will not!
Understanding how important you are to God can help you through any time of discouragement. David, for example, had lots of problems in his life. As a young man he fought with a lion and a bear to protect his sheep. As an older man, when King Saul was trying to kill him, he found comfort by singing “The Lord is MY shepherd, I shall not want” (Ps. 23).
Psalm 139 is an amazing testament to how important David was to God. While the whole Psalm emphasizes this over and over, note these thoughts in particular. David wrote: “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Ps 139:15-16)
God knew all about David before he was even born. God also knew all about you before you were born. God had a plan for David’s life, and I think God also has a plan for your life. God was with David during all of the troubles he faced, and God will also be with you during all of the troubles you face. Here are a few examples of people with a divine destiny.

Isaiah wrote: “He formed me in the womb to be His servant” (Is. 49:5).

Jeremiah wrote: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." (Jer. 1:5)

Paul wrote: “But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles,”
(Gal 1:15-16)

God had a purpose for Jesus before He was born.

God had a purpose John the Baptist before he was born. #
Perhaps God also had a purpose for you before you were born. #
Finding God’s purpose in your life is an exciting adventure.
One day Jesus saw a man who was blind from birth. His disciples asked: “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" (John 9:2)
Jesus answered: “Neither this man nor his parents sinned . . .but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” (John 9:3)
Not everyone called by God into His service will be famous. The vast majority of us will live and die in obscurity. Take, for example, the story Jesus told of a beggar named Lazarus. He was lying at a rich man’s gate filled with sores, and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. His only friends were the dogs of the street who came to lick his wounds. When he died, however, he was carried by the angels to a place of eternal reward (Lk. 16:19 - 22). Since God knew all about this lowly beggar it is logical to assume that He also knows all about you.
God calls us to be FAITHFUL not successful!

He said that he was inspired to do this because his father pointed a gun at his head and threatened to kill him when he was only 7 years old. Gideon couldn’t believe that God could use him because he was from the weakest clan in Manasseh and he was the least in his family (Judges 6:15). God used him anyhow. #
Saul couldn’t believe that God wanted him to be king because he came from the smallest tribe in Israel and his clan was the least in the whole tribe (1 Sam. 9:21). God made him king anyhow.

Nobody in his family believed that David would be a king. When Samuel came looking for the next king David wasn’t even in the running. He was out in the fields taking care of the sheep. That’s when God told Samuel: “Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Sam. 16:7).
YOU are more important to God than mere words can ever describe. If you will totally give your heart to Him, He will do immeasurably more in your life than you can ever ask or imagine (Eph. 3:20).
