LETTERS FROM GRANDPA # 206
Dearest grandchild,
Today’s letter will deal with the unpleasant subject of abortion. Most don’t like to even think about it. Killing babies is not a pleasant subject. Judge Herbert Casteel pointed out in his book The Drums of Molech that pagan worshipers beat their drums so that mother’s couldn’t hear the screams of their babies being burned alive. In a similar vein it was said that German churches played the organ louder when the death trains went by on their way to Auschwitz. The fact that some 55 million babies will die in the womb this year is not a pleasant subject. As unpleasant as it is, however, please think about it!
Perhaps no verse in the Bible reveals more succinctly the worth of an unborn child than the Lord’s message to Rebekah - “Two nations are in your womb!” Rebekah, the wife of Isaac, was pregnant with twins. As the babies jostled one another within her she inquired of the Lord what was happening? “The Lord said to her, two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger” (Gen. 25:23).
Obviously these unborn babies were not merely “blobs of tissue” or “parts of Rebekah’s body”. They were “two nations”. No mother has the “right” to kill an unborn baby, let alone a nation. A baby becoming a nation raises the specter of abortion to a new level. Abortion not only kills the baby, but also that baby’s potential and progeny.
Environmentalists insist that the rainforests should be preserved for fear that we might inadvertently destroy some plant or tree that contains the cure for cancer. Many of these same people, however, do not see any danger in aborting millions of babies. If it is possible for an unborn baby to become a nation, isn’t it also possible that an unborn baby might also discover a cure for cancer?
As a side note, Rebekah had been married for 20 years without having children. (Isaac was 40 when he and Rebekah were married - Gen. 25:20, and he was sixty when she gave birth - Gen. 25:26). Rebekah got pregnant because Isaac prayed for her and God answered his prayers (Gen. 25:21). All life comes from God. Adam was given life by God, and so are unborn babies. No baby is an accident! Eve gave birth to her son “with the help of the Lord” (Gen. 4:1). When she gave birth to Seth she said: “God has granted me another child” (Gen. 4:25). It is God Who knits a baby together in it’s mother’s womb (Ps. 139:13). How utterly Satanic it is to kill an unborn baby while God is knitting it together.
The Bible, of course, was right. Rebekah’s babies did become “two nations”! Esau and Jacob became fathers of multitudes. Eve, as you know, is called the mother of all living (Gen. 3:20). When any woman becomes pregnant the potential of that pregnancy is unlimited.
Satan was not only a murderer from the beginning, but also a liar (Jn. 8:44). One reason why satan lies about abortion is because God promised that the offspring of the woman would crush his head (Gen. 3:15). Every baby born is therefore a potential threat to satan.
God in His infinite wisdom has chosen to partner with mothers to defeat the devil. God could have created everyone without mothers just as He created Adam and Eve. He chose, however, to permit mothers to participate with Him in the redemption of the world. The long process of bringing
Christ into the world began when Eve gave birth to Seth, and ended in Bethlehem when Mary gave birth to Jesus. Luke provides a complete list of this genealogy (Lk. 3:23-38). Every mother and father in the list began as a baby in their mother’s womb. Every name in the list was an essential link to the birth of Christ. Aborting any ancestor of Jesus would have broken the chain. No wonder satan inspired the Pharaoh, Hamaan, and Herod to kill Jewish boys.
Even though the ancestors of Jesus were faithful in preserving life, the strategic role of mothers still continues. The Apostle Paul, for example, was set apart from birth to be an apostle to the Gentiles (Gal. 1:15). Perhaps God has a special destiny for every baby!
Can you not see how diabolical abortion is? Abortion enables that old “liar” and “murderer” to to stop progress by killing babies before they are even born. There may come a time when some of you will be tempted to consider the “convenience” of abortion to avoid the “inconvenience” of being a parent. You will indeed be blessed if you do not yield to that temptation (Ja. 1:12). Who knows? Perhaps your baby will become a nation too!
