Dearest grandchild,
Today’s letter will deal with lying. Jesus is the truth (Jn. 14:6), and God cannot lie (Tit. 1:2). By contrast, the devil is a liar and the father of lies (Jn. 8:44).
Several years ago I paid over $70 for a blood pressure cuff. I recently discovered that it is only accurate part of the time. Since I can’t tell when it is right and when it is wrong I considered it useless and bought another one. In the same way we never know when we can trust a liar.
Andy Andrews has written a small book titled “How Do You Kill Eleven Million People?” (Or, to be precise, 11,283,000 people). This is the number of people killed by the Nazis in Germany between 1933 and 1945. When you are sending thousands of Jews to a death camp you dare not tell them the truth. The trick is to lie and deceive them. You carefully choose a small number of guards to avoid scaring away your victims. You apologize for their inconvenience but plead for them to trust you. You claim to be sorry for the fact that cattle cars are the only means available for their transportation. You promise them, however, that if they will only trust you they will not be sorry. At the end of their uncomfortable journey you promise that each family will have a home and be reunited with their loved ones. Most of the victims believed the lie and obediently lined up for their fatal journey. Lying is the simple explanation for how the Nazis murdered 11 million people.
The late Saul David Alinsky (1909-1972) was a Marxist activist bent on transforming America. His books Reveille for Radicals (1946) and Rules for Radicals (1972) are used by many as a blueprint for this transformation. As you know, President Obama was a community organizer who was said to be a influenced by Alinsky. You may have also heard that in 1969, Hillary Rodham wrote her 92-page senior thesis for Wellesley College about Alinsky. It is significant to note that in the book “Rules for Radicals” Alinsky paid tribute to the devil with these words: ““Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history… the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.” As mentioned above, Jesus called Lucifer, or the devil, a liar and the father of lies.
MIT economics professor Jonathan Gruber was instrumental in crafting the Affordable Care Act known as “Obamacare”. Here is a clip of Professor Gruber bragging about how the White House relied upon the “lack of transparency” and the “stupidity of the American voter” to pass this legislation

which made explicit that healthy people pay in and sick people get money it would not have passed. Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical to get the thing to pass.”
Unfortunately we must be on guard against lying everywhere. A few weeks ago one of the men of our church said that his grandson informed him that Muslims were much more tolerant than Christians. He is a Junior High student and claimed to learned this in schoo in his social studies class. If you think Islam is tolerant please take a long look at Saudi Arabia. This is the country where Mecca is located. Muhammad declared Mecca as the holiest site in Islam It is the center of the Muslim pilgrimage, which is one of their faith's five pillars. If you want to understand Islam in it’s purest form, Saudi Arabia ought to be the perfect place to do so. Surely the Islamic scholars in Saudi Arabia know more about Islam than politicians and professors in the Western world. Here are some facts to consider about pure Islam as practiced in Saudi Arabia.

It is the 12th most dangerous country in the world to be a Christian.

There is no religious tolerance in Saudi Arabia, consequently there are no churches or
synagogues there.

If fact, the public practice of all non-Muslim religions is prohibited. This law is strictly
enforced by threat of the death penalty.

According to the Associated Press (Jan. 1, 2016) beheadings in Saudi Arabia have reached
a 20 year high. Those who convert to other religions are executed for blasphemy. #
It is significant to note that most of these executions occur on Friday, which is Islam’s holy
day.

Since Christianity is forbidden to Saudi citizens, the Christian are “officially” foreigners. #
Even for foreigners, however, all outward displays of Christian symbols or of Christian
celebration are forbidden.

Preaching to non-Christians or attempting to convert Muslims to the Christian faith is also
forbidden.
The Scriptures teach to “Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.” (1 Thess 5:21-22) I am told that this Bible word for “test” is used for the assaying of metals. Pyrite is known as “fool's gold”. It looks like gold, but it isn’t. The assayer examining pyrite must be very carefully to avoid being “fooled”. We need to do the same. Testing everything was originally written to warn believers about false teaching. It also applies however to what you are taught in school, what you see on television, and even what you read in these “Letters from grandpa”. Once you analyze what is said - hold on to the truth and avoid the very appearance of a lie.
