EVE - THE MOTHER OF ALL LIVING “Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.” (Gen 3:20) World population is accelerating with remarkable speed. It took Eve 9 months to have a baby, but today a new baby is born every 8 seconds. World population did not reach 1 billion until A.D. 1804. Regardless of your view on the age of the earth, the time line from Eve to 1804 involved thousands of years. The next billion, however, came in only 123years. The next in only 33 years. World population reached 6 billion on October 12, 1999 and 7 billion on October 31, 2011. This, as you can see, took only 12 years. Remember! Eve is the mother of all living. World population rests like an inverted pyramid upon only one mother. Adam named her “Eve”. This is the Hebrew word “Chavvah” which mean “life giver”. How beautiful! How appropriate! She is the mother of all living. Eve is mentioned by name only 4 times in the Bible (Gen. 3:20; 4:1; 2 Cor. 11:3; 1 Tim. 2:13). While there are many lessons we can learn from her, our lesson for today involves the ability life to begin like a small seed but live to fill the earth. As you know, God blessed Adam and Eve in the garden and said: “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." (Gen 1:28) This is precisely what they did. But now let us make a spiritual application to this truth. Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia that spiritual Jerusalem is our mother (Gal. 4:26). Jerusalem, as you know, is the place where the church began. That little Jerusalem church was once so small that every saved person on earth could fit in a single room. As the mother church reproduced, however, the “Lord added to their number daily” (Acts 2:47). It wasn’t long, however, before the number of disciples “multiplied” in Jerusalem greatly (Acts 6:7) Today these believers have multiplied to the extent that they number into the millions and are found in every nation on earth. Our spiritual heritage, however, still goes back to Jerusalem as she is the mother of us all. Do you see this principle? Noah had 3 sons and every one of them produced nations. These nations are listed in Genesis 10 which is called the Table of Nations. In fact, all the nations on earth came from this single family. Abraham was also the father of a nation (Gen. 18:18), and so was Ishmael (Gen. 21:13). Christians are designated in Scripture as a “holy nation” (1 Pet. 2:9). But every nation on earth today comes from a mother. It was not good for Adam to be alone. God could have created children for Adam in the same way He created Adam himself. He could have formed them from the dust of the earth and breathed into their nostrils the breath of life. God could have created millions of children for Adam just as He created millions of stars. But He didn’t do it this way! In His infinite wisdom God chose to populate the earth through mothers. In this regard it is not by accident that the church is designated the Bride of Christ. God, in His infinite wisdom has chosen to fill the earth with believers any way He wanted to, but in His infinite wisdom He chose to do so through the church. He didn’t have to do it this way, but He did! How sad that many believers are barren and have never known the joy involved in leading another person to Christ. No! It isn’t easy for a mother to bring a baby into the world, but the joy of being a mother causes the pain of childbirth to be forgotten. Jesus said it like this: “A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.” (John 16:21) No! It isn’t always easy to lead another person to Christ. Doing so, however, not only creates joy in the presence of the angels (Lk. 15:10) but also creates joy in the heart of every soul winner! Please ask Jesus to help you win a soul to Christ that your joy may be complete! (Jn. 16:24).
