CULT CITY (Review of the book by Daniel J. Flynn)
Author, Daniel J. Flynn wrote: “I was a kid when the Johnstown mass suicide took place, and always assumed that Jim Jones was some kind of a fundamentalist Christian. In fact, he and his People’s Temple, were very much the opposite”. This book blows the cover of revisionist historians and shines the light of truth on 10 days that shook San Francisco. November 2018 marks the 40 anniversary of this fiasco.
Forty years ago the Zodiac killers were taunting the cops, the Zebra Murderers were targeting white people, and the Symbionese Liberation Army kidnapped Patty Heart. Those were the days of “The Summer of Love”, “Haight-Ashbury”, and “Golden Gate Park’s Human Be-In”. Added to this bizarre mixture came the death’s of over 900 followers of Jim Jones in Guyana, and the murders of Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone in San Francisco.
Flynn points out that Jim Jones was not a fundamentalist Christian but rather a socialist fanatic. Jim ridiculed the Bible and even stomped on it in front of his flock. When Jonestown ran out of toilet paper they used the Bible for toilet paper. Jonestown was actually a communist community donning red uniforms, singing the Red Army Chorus “The Internationale”, and studying the Russian language. Even the mass suicide had political ramifications as Jones deemed it “revolutionary suicide”.
One reason to revise history of Jones was to protect his political allies. Jones was a prominent politician in San Francisco. He even had private meetings with Walter Mondale and Rosalynn Carter during the 1976 presidential campaign. Mayor Moscone appointed him chairman of the city’s Housing Commission Authority. Jane Fonda, Huey Newton, Angela Davis and others heaped praise upon him. Willie Brown compared him to Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. This made the malicious make over of Jones a political necessity. How convenient it was to blame Christianity!
Harvey Milk was a city supervisor in San Francisco andCalifornia's first openly gay elected public official. On November 27, 1978, he and Mayor George Moscone were both assassinated by DanWhite. In reality Harvey was not a martyr but an evil man who raped teen age boys. At age thirty-three, he hooked up with a sixteen-year-old named Jack McKinley. This was only one of many of younger men with whom he was intimate. In spite of this, each year on May 22" California students celebrate Harvey Milk Day. It was therefore politically important to make this vicious pedophile into a martyr. He was not killed by a homophobe as revisionists would have you believe. He was killed by Dan White who was a friend and former political ally who was furious over a political betrayal.
Dan White also killed Mayor Moscone for the same reason. He felt betrayed because he was not reappointed to a position from which he had recently resigned. This unfortunate tragedy, however, solidified the political career of Dianne Feinstein. At the time she was president of the Board of Supervisors, but at the death of Moscone was immediately appointed mayor.
It is sad to see San Francisco abandon truth to promote a political agenda. It reminds us of the Biblical indictment of the ancient world recorded in Romans 1:21-32. When they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, God gave them over to a reprobate mind. A recent NBC Bay Area Investigation revealed a dangerous mix of drug needles, garbage, and feces throughout downtown San Francisco. The Investigative Unit surveyed 153 blocks of the city. The more than 20-mile stretch includes popular tourist spots like Union Square and major hotel chains. While apparently accepting as inevitable this exposure to human feces and disease infected needles, the San Francisco supervisors unanimously approved a ban on plastic straws. How’s that for priorities? Or consider 45 year old Jose Ines Garcia Zarate. He is an illegal alien who has been deported five times. On July 1, 2015 he killed Kathryn Stenle by shooting her in the back as she was strolling along Pier 14. Incredibly, the killer was acquitted. San Francisco, as you know, is a “sanctuary city” that doesn’t turn in illegal aliens to the Federal Government. They are also toying with the idea of letting illegals vote.
No wonder Daniel J. Flynn describes San Francisco as a “Cult City”.
